More than 100 years ago, an anonymous Sigma Chi defined fraternity as “an obligation, a necessity, an introduction, a requirement, a passport, a lesson, an influence, an opportunity, an investment, a peacemaker and a pleasure.”
As one of the oldest and largest social fraternities in the world, Sigma Chi has initiated millions of brothers since our founding in 1855. With over 15,500 brothers currently attending university across North America, we are the largest active Fraternity in the world. As an organization, we offer leadership training, scholarship opportunities, and a Network of over 300,000 living Sigma Chis.
The Gamma Lambda chapter of Sigma Chi is located at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Our brothers are actively involved in the Social, Philanthropic, and Academic aspects of McGill University and the Montreal community. Together, we strive to better ourselves through the values of Friendship, Justice, and Learning. Like all fraternities, Sigma Chi has its own colors, insignia, and traditions,
What makes Sigma Chi McGill unique is our diversity of temperaments, talents, and convictions. Our brothers are spread across five faculties and five continents. We have different interests and passions, but come together in a stronger brotherhood, not in spite of our differences, but because of them. The purpose of Sigma Chi is to cultivate and maintain the high ideals of friendship, justice, and learning. In the words of significant sig, John Wayne:
"Men join fraternities; leaders of men join Sigma Chi."
